LCC Department of Business

Project Timeline: June - July 2017

Right after graduating from the LCC Graphic Design program, I took a public arts class that focused on designing a mural for Lane’s Department of Business. As a class, we met with the clients in the Business Department while also learning about the impact that art in public, whether commissioned or illegal, has on a community.

The Department of Business wanted a mural that communicated the powerful career options a potential student can find within the department while also conveying a vibrant and promising future to not only those within the department, but also any student coming into the college. The client specifically mentioned “sands of time’ being an influential design element.

Each student took the notes gathered and began designing their own mural concepts. I chose a coastal image with the boat being a student’s hopeful future. When a student walked into the building from the left, they would join this group of students looking at their hopeful futures within the Department and the college. From the right, students would be inspired by professional quotes and the hopeful journeys ahead of them. My design won by client’s choice.
