Mirage was a final class project in the Lane Community College Graphic Design program. The magazine is for those who are passionate about photography, highlighting famous photographers and giving professional tips. The task was to find an article on a famous photographer that can spread over several pages, design the front and back covers, in addition to the story’s spreads. My layout was inspired by balancing the negative space with the heavy black and white photography by Cartier-Bresson. The gold was eye-dropped from the ad and used as a complementary color throughout the magazine.
Mirage Magazine
Front Cover
I was drawn to the stark contrast of Cartier-Bresson’s grainy photography. That set the tone for the typography and layout. Franklin Gothic sets the masculine tone with subtle hints of vulnerable beauty with its aesthetic range and tall cap-height.
